1.学术英语Academic English（54学时）：
The goal of this course is to prepare students to read, write, speak and listen to English well enough to succeed in university studies. During the course, students will practice academic and language activities that they may encounter in tertiary level education. Activities include viewing and discussing videotaped lectures, listening and note-taking, academic writing, reading academic texts, critical thinking, participating in discussions and seminars, andspeaking English naturally.
2.加拿大历史The History of Canada（27学时）：
The course aims to give students an overview of the historical and cultural development of Canada, with an emphasis on the local customs and traditions. In this course, students will learn significant historical events happened on the continent ofCanada, understand facts and notions that profoundly influence this area, and experience the local culture and traditions in person. Further lectures about theCanadianhigher education system, the history ofHalifax andLunenburg, and the life guide for students will also be offered during the project.
3.跨文化交流Cross-Cultural Communication（27学时）：
The aim of this course is to help students develop cultural awareness, and improve their intercultural communication competence. Students will learn how to design their own strategies to deal with challenges and problems arising in intercultural communication situations. Specifically, they will learn how to be sensitive to concepts and practices from other cultural background, how to improve their own social discourse in cross-cultural settings, and further practice effective methods to predict and solve potential problems with those from other cultures.
